“When I was a teenager in Alberta, Canada, I was hoping to find a teacher who took ballet seriously. I had no aspirations to work within the arts - I simply loved the art of ballet and wanted to practice with purpose. Luckily, I found Ms. Sophia! After my first trial class, I recognised the quality of instruction that I received and immediately changed dance schools. Ms. Sophia’s approach to teaching ballet was uniquely different to what was offered in the area. With an emphasis placed on focusing on one’s technique and artistry, I worked towards RAD ballet exams and participated in the year-end recitals. I learnt what the joy of performing was while being a part of a team. Most significantly, I saw my technique and self-confidence flourish and my exam marks proved it. Under her guidance and instruction, I improved nearly 20% between my Grade 5 and 6 ballet exams! I learnt skills in Ms. Sophia’s ballet classes that have easily transferred to other areas of my life: a strong work ethic, perseverance, and courage to pursue my ambitions.
Ms. Sophia’s passion for ballet and dance teaching instruction inspired me to pursue a career in dance as a ballet teacher, where I followed her example to pursue further training in higher education. Her kind and motivational teaching methods continue to inspire me today. Having worked with Ms. Sophia as a student, teacher in training, and ballet teacher, I have seen firsthand the effect that her positive teaching example has made on myself and other students. Our daughters have attended classes at SL Dance Academy since they were little. The teachers and classes are brilliant and we have watched our daughters and their friends grow in confidence as well as develop their dancing skills.
The performance group has given some brilliant opportunities to learn varied dancies and to perform in front of others. We enjoy being part of this dance school.
